Below are some of the most common questions that counselors ask throughout the admission cycle.
Where can I review academic requirements for admission?
- To assist students with scheduling courses for next year and beyond, review our academic requirements for admission. This chart includes major-specific information for math, science, business, engineering and nursing applicants. Students can also find application tips from our admissions counselors—including essay and SAT advice—on our Preparing for College web page.
Can an admitted student change their major after they submit their application?
- Students can request a change of major by completing a form in their student portal, My Blue Hen Home. Changes should only be made when students are confident in their selection.
What is the process to apply for merit scholarships?
- Admitted students who completed the admission application by Jan. 15 are automatically considered for merit scholarships. Students interested in honors scholarships will need to apply to UD before Nov. 1—the Honors College application deadline.
Can students be considered for additional merit scholarships?
- UD tries to lead with its best offer for merit scholarships. There is no appeal for reconsideration of the merit scholarship amount. We encourage all families looking to maximize their aid eligibility to complete the FAFSA. Families who complete the FAFSA will be considered for federal and University grant funding. How can students and families schedule a meeting with Student Financial Services?
- Students can schedule a virtual appointment with an SFS advisor here. Students can also meet with an SFS advisor in the University Visitors Center if they happen to be on campus.
When will students receive their financial aid package?
- Students eligible for merit scholarships should receive information on their eligibility about two weeks after notification of admission. Students who are selected for a merit scholarship will receive information about the scholarship in their portal, by email and mail. For admitted students who have filed the FAFSA, UD will begin notifying students of full financial aid eligibility, including need-based grants and loans, in late February. Admitted students who file the FAFSA in March or later should see their cost estimate approximately two weeks after submitting the FAFSA.
