Beginning in the fall of 2026, there will be no separate application process for UD’s Honors College. All freshmen who submit their UD application by Nov. 1 will automatically be considered for the Honors College and those students who qualify will receive an admission letter from honors in January. The Common and Coalition applications will continue to include a question asking if students are interested in learning more about the Honors College, however, this will not serve as a formal application.
Test-optional Continuing Fall 2027 and Beyond On March 2, the University of Delaware voted to adopt a test-optional policy indefinitely, which means that students can decide whether or not to supply standardized test scores from the SAT or ACT as part of their application to UD.
Academic Requirement Updates for Fall 2027 and Beyond
Beginning fall 2027, students will no longer be required to complete 16 specific academic units. Students applying to the University of Delaware will be required to complete a high school diploma or its equivalent in compliance with the requirements for their respective states.
Please note that while there are no specific academic requirements for admission to the University, admission to some majors require successful completion of pre-calculus by the time of graduation from high school. Applicants to majors with this math requirement will not be considered for the major unless the pre-calculous prerequisite has been met.
If an applicant's high school does not offer pre-calculus or calculus, they can apply for University Studies and attempt to transfer internally after fulfilling the requirements.

Accepted for admission. When students are admitted to UD, they can view their next steps on their student portal, My Blue Hen Home (udel.edu/mybluehenhome). The deadline to submit a deposit to UD is May 1.
Conditionally accepted to the engineering-undeclared major with the requirement to complete additional coursework before their first semester at UD.
A postponed decision based on mid-year academic performance. Students who receive these letters are asked to upload mid-year grades to their portal, supplying us with more information to make a final decision. Deferred students will receive a final decision by mid-April.
Students who have met admissions requirements but have not yet received admission to UD due to space limitations will receive an email asking them to complete a form confirming their willingness to be placed on the waitlist. Only students who reply on the waitlist form will be considered in the event that space becomes available. If a student opts into the waitlist, they can expect to hear no later than early June whether they are ultimately offered a spot at UD.
Not admitted. If there is any new information to support a student’s admission, they can request an appeal by emailing their UD counselor.
